guide-to-bathroom-designBathrooms are one of the best rooms to renovate and design as they give a great value to your home. From flooring to lighting, here are some of the current trends in bathroom design.

Geometric Shapes and Patterns

showerGeometric shapes have become very popular in bathrooms today, offering a variety of shapes and colors. Chevron, and hexagon are two tile shapes that give a nice crisp and clean look. Shower walls, backsplashes and flooring all make great places to experiment with new tile designs!

Tip: If designing with tile flooring, prevent chilly feat by installing radiant heating.

Sinks and Hardware

Silver and brushed nickel hardware are being seen less as more homeowners choose brass and gold metals. Faucets, shower heads, towel racks and even lighting can all be great places to add the classic look of these two metals. In additional to style, larger shower heads are being designed with massaging flows that give users the ultimate relaxing experience.

As mentioned above, ceramic tile in different patterns makes a great bathroom flooring option as does stone and laminate. One bathroom trend that goes well with a number of decor styles is wood floors. It creates a more natural effect for bathrooms. If wood floors aren’t quite in the budget, using laminate tile that mimics wood patterns is a less expensive alternative. It comes in a variety of colors and textures.

Here’s a guide to flooring options for your home.

bathroom-storageStorage in a bathroom is always a plus. Custom cabinetry, and built-in shelving gives homeowners space to store every day items as well as linens and supplies. As a home seller, bathrooms designed with multiple storage areas are a big plus to home buyers. Ample storage also helps prevent clutter!

Showers that are flush with the floor or non-threshold showers are easy to clean and and look wonderful in modern and contemporary decor. Another trend in showers is to install them separately but in one room known as “wet room.” This gives a very luxurious look and feel similar to an upscale hotel.

Lighting and Mirrors

Gone are the days of traditional vanity style lighting when new options like sconces, pendent and chandeliers give a custom feel. Other bathroom accessories like mirrors are also taking on different looks. Round mirrors versus square and rectangular mirrors are being seen more often in modern and contemporary bathrooms.
